Urban Games and Hip Hop 2012
17 – 19 August

The Urban Games is an action-packed weekend of demonstrations, workshops, and competitions showcasing the North East of England’s most talented singers, dancers, rappers, beatboxers, Free Runners, and extreme sports stars.
On the eve of the event, 17th August 2012, join us for a private special showcase of all these talents in the Great Hall of the Discovery Museum, one of our host venues for this year’s Games along with the Centre for Life. For FREE tickets email events@theurbangames.org.uk.
On the 18th August 2012 the Urban Games get underway with the opening ceremony at Centre for Life’s Times Square as well as the Skate and BMX Participation Day, the Pro Riders Bike Trials competition, The Parkour and Free Running sessions and trials, the street and break dance heats and finals as well as a World Record attempt from 3SIXTY Stunt Cycle team.
The 19th August 2012 brings medal winning finals for BMX, scooter, skateboard/inline and best trick disciplines as well as the beatbox master classes and battle. There will also be Parkour and free running showcases and workshops throughout the day.

This Summer we’ve taken our unique brand of Extreme Sports and Hip Hop culture on the road to Durham, Northumberland National Park, and the Quayside where people can experience the inimitable blend of showcases and disciplines.

- 24th August @ John Whitehead Park Stockton 12pm-4pm.
- 25th August @ Elmtree Community Centre Billingham Stockton 12pm-4pm.
- 29th September @ Activate Event, Bents Park, South Shields, for the Scouts’ Jubilee Event. All day.
If you are interested in booking one of our Urban Games Road-Shows for your school, community event, they come in a variety of packages from Platinum and Gold through to Bronze. We have delivered Urban Games Road-Shows for NewcastleGateshead Initiative at The Bridges Festival, Durham County Council, Northumberland National Park, Stockton Council Children and Young People’s Service amongst others.
We can alsoprovide one off workshop from our team of expert tutors in urban sports and arts such as skateboarding, bmx, parkour, street dance, break dance, digital graffiti or music tech and DJ.

In 2011
13th-14th August 2011 marked the second annual Urban Games event held in Whitley Bay. It coincided with the Kite Festival and was a massive success, expanding on 2010’s Urban Games by

attracting over 8,000 spectators, performers, competitors, and volunteers.
The Saturday Night Showcase at the Whitley Bay Playhouse went down a storm with the packed out venue enjoying outstanding performances by the young people involved.

In 2010
October 16th 2010. The launch of the first Urban Games, held at the Sage Gateshead. The event attracted over 500 performers, volunteers, spectators, and competitors with the break dance competition attracting participants from Scotland, Yorkshire and even France!
Through 2010 we delivered a series of activities and workshops to over 1000 children and young people.
Our projects included ‘GIRLS ALLOWED’ which had workshops in DJ, music tech, singing and Rap, and Friday night & Saturday Positive Activities sessions in North Tyneside.
The Urban G’s performance team showcased their talents at The Great North Run Show, the Brathay Marathon in Cumbria, at a diversity event in South Yorkshire, at The Dale Force event in Weardale County Durham.
